Kendric was 6 years old when his mom applied for treatment at Little Baby Face Foundation in October of 2017 for the hairy nevus he had on his face. Beyond the physical appearance of a hairy nevus on the face, there is always the concern that in a small number of cases hairy nevi can become cancerous (you can read more about hairy nevi here). In Kendric’s case, it was best to seek treatment.

Growths and deformities around the nose and mouth are particularly challenging to remove and often require a very skilled plastic surgeon to repair or rebuild the philtrum, which is the vertical groove above the top lip. Kendric was in the best hands at Little Baby Face Foundation, as we have some of the nation’s leading plastic surgeons specializing in facial birth defects.

Many times, a facial deformity such as a hairy nevus will need to be treated in more than one surgery. This was the case for Kendric. His first procedure and test took place in February 2018. It can be anywhere between 3 to 12 months between surgeries depending on the time needed to heal from and our volunteer doctors’ schedules. We also do our best to schedule around school schedules. By August of 2018, Kendric was able to have his second surgery.

Following his two surgeries, we were able to schedule follow up with laser sessions, as Kendric luckily lives close by in New Jersey.

In June of 2019 and September of 2019, Kendric had two additional procedures and once more again in February of 2020. Unfortunately, his treatments were interrupted by Covid-19, but we are pleased to announce that he has recently been scheduled for what we hope are the final stages of his treatment this month!

We are very excited for Kendric to be able to finish his treatment. We’ve seen again and again what a difference treatment makes, not only for children’s physical health, but also their self-confidence. After treatment, there is often a weight lifted for the children and their families, and we love to see that transformation and take part in it!
