How to Apply for Free Reconstructive Surgery with Little Baby Face Foundation

December 17, 2025

If your child was born with a facial difference or developed one due to illness or trauma, you are not alone — and there is hope.

At the Little Baby Face Foundation (LBFF), we transform the lives and faces of children through free, world-class reconstructive surgery. Our volunteer surgeons and medical team provide care that restores essential functions — like breathing, eating, and hearing — while helping children face the world with confidence.

Here's how our reconstructive surgery application process works and what to expect when you apply.

Step 1: Complete Our Confidential Online Application

To begin, visit our secure online form at https://www.littlebabyface.org/apply

You'll be asked to provide:

  • Contact and family details
  • Your child's age and medical history
  • A brief description of your child's facial condition
  • Clear photos to help our medical board understand your child's needs

Every reconstructive surgery application is reviewed by our Medical Advisory Board, which includes volunteer specialists in pediatric, craniofacial, and reconstructive surgery. All submissions are treated with confidentiality and compassion.

Step 2: Medical Review by Our Expert Team

Once we receive your application, LBFF's volunteer surgeons and medical specialists review it to determine eligibility for treatment.

We focus on functional reconstructive surgery —procedures that improve a child's ability to breathe, eat, hear, and speak, while also enhancing appearance. These surgeries are not cosmetic; they are life-changing interventions that restore essential function and confidence.

In certain situations, we invite families to New York City for a short visit called a 'Look See.' This in-person evaluation helps our medical team confirm whether surgery is possible. If you've traveled from a distance and surgery is approved, we do our best to provide care during that same trip.

If your child qualifies, our team will contact you to explain next steps, answer questions, and begin planning.

Step 3: Travel and Surgery Coordination

When a child is accepted, LBFF covers all essential medical and logistical costs, including:

  • Surgery and hospital fees
  • Anesthesia and related medical supplies
  • Travel and lodging for one parent or guardian

Children travel to New York City, where surgeries take place in state-of-the-art hospitals or private operating rooms with LBFF's team of volunteer surgeons. This unique model allows every child to receive the highest quality care, regardless of where they live or their family's financial situation.

Step 4: Post-Surgery Care and Continued Support

LBFF provides ongoing support to families after surgery. This includes necessary follow-up visits, recovery guidance, and access to a caring network of parents, volunteers, and medical professionals who continue to offer encouragement throughout the healing process.

Many children receive multi-stage treatments over several years, with LBFF walking alongside them every step of the way.

Who Can Apply?

Children 21 years or younger with a congenital facial difference or one caused by illness or trauma may be eligible for treatment.

LBFF welcomes families from around the world, and there is no cost to those accepted for care. Each case is reviewed individually by our medical team to ensure the best possible fit for treatment.

If you're unsure whether your child qualifies, we encourage you to apply. Every application is reviewed with the same level of care and compassion.
