Volunteers help our children AND help keep our expenses low.

Currently LBFF schedules two patients per month, from this or another country, accompanied by one or both of their parents. Patients, ranging in age from 5-12 years, stay in NY for about 10 days for surgical procedure and follow up visits. Usually the child is up and about in a day or two.

Volunteer escorts donate their free time whenever available, including afternoons, early evenings and week ends. Volunteers are free to have someone accompany them (a friend, family member, child or friend’s child). The idea is to have a few hours of fun with the patient participating in child-friendly activities such as: the Children’s Zoo, Central Park, Times Square, Greenwich Village, Statue of Liberty (we have passes), Museum of Natural History, etc. LBFF allows a stipend of $25 per escort for expenses.

Please complete this form and someone from our Volunteer committee will be in touch with you by email. Thank you for your interest!

A Volunteer’s Testimonial

“I spent time with Jonathon and Julia Chavarria on Thursday, Monday and Tuesday. I had a lot of fun with them, and found them to both be very sweet and appreciative. Jonathon is probably the most polite child I have ever met. We went on the Staten Island Ferry and out to lunch (McDonald’s—Jonathon’s choice), Trinity Church, and Ground Zero Thursday. On Monday we had lunch, then went for a rowboat ride in Central Park. On Tuesday Julia, Jonathon and I went to the Statue of Liberty. I spoke to the ticket agent who spoke to her boss, and we got free! Special passes to NOT wait in line and to be among the few people who went into the the Statue as high as anyone can go. I think Jonathon was impressed. He does love going on a boat ride. We finished off the day by walking over to the South Street Seaport where we looked at the tall ships and talked about Pirates of the Carribean, Jonathon’s favorite movie. He was Jack Sparrow last Halloween. It was pretty late, so we will have to fully explore the S. St. Seaport when Jonathon comes back. I am glad that I picked your organization, because it is as much fun for me as it hopefully is for the families, and it is a most wonderful service that you provide.”
