“Hi, my name is Joy Speer and here is my story. I woke up from my emergency cesaeran section, and the Dr was sitting on the edge of my bed. She said “It's not your fault, you did nothing wrong,” I didn't even know what she was talking about at this time. But, I soon learned. I was a 20-year-old, single mom. I had dreamed of having a baby girl. But, I didn't know what had happened. After the great news was given that I had a baby girl, I was told that my daughter had a birth defect. As soon as the Doctor told me it wasn’t my fault, I automatically felt like it was my fault. I was being punished. I was not married. And I had a child with Microtia, Atresia. I didn't even know what that was. But, soon I learned. My daughter didn't have an ear."
